Making A Home OUR Home

Hello friends! Today on Our Pretty Life I will be sharing a bit about our entire home remodel. After weighing the choice to build or buy we ultimately decided on buying because we LOVED the plot of land and the location of the home and could not find open land that came close to meeting all our wants. We purchased our dream home in August of 2018, with every intention of remodeling it. Now that the remodel is said and done… we should have built 😅 I learned quickly how custom my taste truly was and that can be challenging when the house already stands.

Let’s talk contractors, real quick. I can’t stress this enough, do your due diligence when it comes to hiring a contractor! We dropped the ball here twice 🤦‍♀️ We went through two contractors before we finally hired the right one, third time’s the charm I suppose. We started this project in January of 2019, with an optimistic end date to be August of 2019 as we had our first baby on the way and wanted to be done before she arrived. My reality was, construction always takes longer than they estimate… which is fine, but contractor number two was much too slow for us and to be honest, we would probably still be under construction had we not moved onto contractor number three. Here we are in June of 2019, two months away from my due date and unbeknownst to us, one year away from the house being finished 😬

A full house remodel was tough! We lived in the basement for a year and a half with a makeshift kitchen, kind of like camping… for over a year 😅 It wasn’t all stress and inconvenience, however, there were aspects of it I loved, such as the designing and the ability to make some custom choices. Designing the house into our home was so much fun, now I am ready to start the decorating part so I am so excited you are here to follow along!
